Rare first edition illustrated with 38 wood in the text and 4 figures engraved on copper mid-page (one repeated). A beautiful frontispiece Hoos.) Brunet, 29030. Half calf flat spine decorated in small corners. Green part of title, florets and nets waves. Binding late eighteenth century. 2/3 of the book have text browned, often strongly. The second part has no title page. John Scheffer (1621-1679) was born in Strasbourg, he was welcomed in Sweden by Queen Christina and appointed librarian of the academy and still got the protection of the queen chair of eloquence and public law at the University Upsala. He also wrote a history of Lapland. De re vehiculi is one of the most scholarly, on a matter which was not often studied, transportation in antiquity.
