Third and last edition, the best and the most complete as to the text, bringing the number of volumes to 10 against 7 published until then. The work published in a luxurious version, in 4 and in this version in-8. The illustration includes a portrait of Raynal by Cochin (with the mention: The defender of freedom, truth ...) frontispiece of volume I and 9 frontispiece figures of other volumes, by Moreau le Jeune.
Binding full green morocco contemporary. Smooth back decorated. Title and volume pieces in red morocco. Triple framing net on the boards. Back evenly thinned. Traces of friction. Superb copy, very rare in morocco green.

Published in 1771, with the collaboration of D'Holbach and Diderot, the Philosophical History of the Two Indies, was a tremendous success throughout Europe and America; its success is mainly due to the severe criticism of colonialism, exploitation, slavery and mercantilism. It was condemned to be abolished by decree of the Council of December 19th, 1779 and condemned to the fire by decree of the Parliament of Paris of May 25th, 1781. It is, still today, a primordial document with regard to the history of colonialism and international trade and more precisely on their political and philosophical criticism in the eighteenth century.
