OVIDE & F. DESAINTANGE

First edition of the translation and notes from St. Angelo, adorned with a frontispiece and fifteen figures from Picart engraved by Jourdan. Note that during the Revolution and again in 1800 the name of the author was shot in Desaintange.
Full blond marbled calf contemporary. Back smooth decorated with jewels and gold boxes, spare capacity and volume numbers of red morocco. Gilded frame boards roulette. All slices speckled red. Caps head and tail leveled. Corners lightly bumped. Some spots.
Good editing, extensive commentary by De Saint-Ange. Although the latter had talent, his translations were hardly appreciated in his time, probably because his poems did not receive the approval of his peers considered him a poser. Note that the translation of the Metamorphoses is to follow and many notes and quotes accompany the text. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
