Illustrated new edition first printing. The figure includes three frontispiece by Cochin, Moreau and Eisen, engraved by Gaucher, Ponce Born; and 20 headers by Eisen, engraved by Helman, De Longueuil, Masquelier and Massard. Elegant shown in neat layout.
Full calf scales blond. Back with five nerves adorned with coffered and gilded finials, as well as part of title and volume numbers of red and green sheepskin. boards framed triple gold fillets. Browned coaching contreplats lace. All slices browned. Caps head and tail of the first volume with small gaps, those of the two other volumes rubbed. Five blunted. Corners Numerous and scattered foxing (mainly at the beginning of the first volume).
Novel published originally in 1665, and had his first illustration in 1720, this biographical episode disguised, mystified by Greek pastoral tale adventures and misfortunes that prevented and delayed marriage with Miss Vayer Servin. The varied narrative draws inspiration from Greek and Latin novels (Ethiopiques Heliodorus) or Persiles and Sigismund de Cervantes.
