Edition collective and first illustrated edition, published during the lifetime of the author. 1 frontispiece and 58 half-page vignettes Romain de Hooghe. Our copy has the characteristics of the third state, including the board of Village seeking her calf (Volume II) with a break of copper in the upper right corner. Note also that the boards of the Cobbler (Volume I) and Farmer who had offended their lord (Volume I), were both covered by new thumbnails. Tchemerzine III, 376. Calf Full time granita. Back tooled raised. Small enough discreet repairs to tears paginated sheets 30, 32, 82 and 109, without loss of text without affecting the engravings. This edition contains 58 stories. Six stories will be added in the same year in the books of prose and poetry Maucroy and La Fontaine; the tale of Misunderstanding, did not appear until 1696 in the posthumous works.
