Latin-French bilingual edition. Translation of Abbé Michel de Marolles, with an allegorical frontispiece title after François Chauveau (Edition 1653) featuring a cherub crowning laurel two busts of writers and two satyrs. Full brown sheepskin that time. Back with four nerves decorated with boxes to the grotesque. All slices speckled. Split bits headpieces, head and tail frayed, corners bumped, many scuffs. Translations were intense activity in Marolles, and he translated most of Latin authors in his time. His knowledge of the language gave him great ease. Renowned writer, he haunted the salons of Madame de Scudery.
