Antoine GUENEE & VOLTAIRE

Edition partly original, published for the first time in 1769 in a Vol. in 8. Two volumes were added for this edition. Full sheepskin vintage blonde. Back tooled raised. Part of title in red morocco. Petis gaps in mind. Tail headdress of Volume III threadbare. 7 corners bumped. Friction. The book is an attack and a critical review of the Treaty of tolerance Voltaire. The work was well received by both critics (Voltaire, d'Alembert) the public. The author demonstrated not only an argument nourished and erudite, but without pedantry and always with impartiality, that Voltaire applauded himself. Letters are not a defense of the church, but religion. As for style, Abbée Guenée establishes a dialogue with Voltaire, and his intention is clear, demonstrative, and not sententious. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
