Robert GARNIER Les tragedies de Robert Garnier

Robert GARNIER

Les tragedies de Robert Garnier

Par Jean Fuzy, à Paris 1607, In-12, 648pp., relié.

New collective edition, rare, eight pieces of the author, after the first full collective in 1585. italicized print.
Bound in full brown sheepskin contemporary. Back with nerves decorated. part of title in red morocco. Coins and caps skilfully restored by a professional. Foxing. yellowed paper.
Garnier (1545-1590) is undoubtedly the first great French tragedian. Most of his subjects are drawn from ancient times, but its last two pieces are firstly a Christian tragedy and the other a tragedy inspired by Ariosto. Friend of the poets of the Pleiades celebrating openly (contain the tragedies in the preliminary parts of poems Ronsart and Belleau, Baïf or even poems signed three), it was less appreciated by the court. His sense of tragedy is inherited from Seneca and Euripides where the tragic sense depends less on action than the sovereign word.
