First printing of this beautiful edition of the plays of Corneille by Voltaire, it is illustrated with 34 figures and engraved by Baquoy Plover, Lemire, Lempereur Longueil ,, and a frontispiece by Peter, engraved by Watelet. Full Calf scales. Back tooled raised. Part of title in red morocco and volume number in black morocco. Triple Net framework on food. marbled blue. Some notebooks browned, like all copies of this edition. See Cohen: "... almost all copies are stained red in some leaves." Discrete restorations skillfully executed. Very nice set, high decorative value. "Nice edition that Voltaire had printed by subscription in Cramer brothers in Geneva, accompanying comments, to endow a descendant of the great Corneille, he had collected. All over Europe took part "(Henry Cohen: Guide book lover with engravings of the eighteenth century, 255). The two famous names of Corneille and Voltaire waved toutte Europe to consider the names of the subscribers, starting with the King of France himself.
