Pierre CORNEILLE

Le théatre de P. Corneille

Chez Cavelier, à Paris 1738, 6 parties en 5 Vol. in-12 (9,5x17cm), relié.

New edition, illustrated with a portrait frontispiece by Le Brun engraved by Thomassin. Title pages in red and black. Full sheepskin brown and speckled ice. Back tooled raised. Part of title and volume number in red morocco. Wheels and tail head. A slight lack of nerve in volume III. Some corners bumped. Friction. Nice copy. This estimated edition was produced by François Antoine Jolly, royal censor. It contains for the first time information on the representation and printing of each piece, they are in the warning of the first volume. Jolly has indeed gathered a number of curious facts which had kept him up by tradition. This edition also contains the three speeches, the dramatic poem, tragedy, and the three unities. Each piece is followed by consideration by the author. Bookplate engraved with the arms of the eighteenth Earl of Corbin.
