Charles BOURDIGNE

La legende de Maistre Pierre Faifeu [Suivie de] Poésies diverses de Jehan Molinet

De l'imprimerie d'Antoine-Urbain Coustelier, à Paris 1723, In-12 (10x16cm), (10) 198pp., relié.

New edition in the collection of ancient poets in Coustelier. The first edition of this work appeared in 1526.
Binding in full mottled calf and then frozen. Back with nerves decorated. part of title in red morocco. head cap restored by an amateur. Some scuffs on the boards. traces of wetness on the first two leaf guard and the next two, ditto in fine.
Under the general title of The legend of Peter Faifeu, the author recounts the adventures and misadventures, "faitz and cheerful sayings" of a certain Pierre Faifeu, alter ego of the author, like him a native of Angers. The whole exudes humor and satire and evokes Villon.
Jean Molinet was a poet of the late fifteenth century, a generation preceding the Bourdigné.
