At the end of the convocation of the States-General in 1789 and recent events, the author expresses his thoughts on the future of the people, the clergy, the king, the nobility ... As a preamble, Bernardin de Saint Pierre expresses doubt as to the decisions of the National Assembly, which does not in itself make the right decisions for the people. His political thought revolves around a balance of powers.
