New edition, partly original and an increased volume troiqième after the first published in 1711 in two volumes; is illustrated as a frontispiece etched by Scotin Delamonce.
Bound in full brown sheepskin contemporary. Back tooled raised. Piece of red morocco title and volume number in brown morocco. Caps frayed heads. Tail cap Volume I pulled out. Rubbed together. 10 corners bumped.
Endowed with the thesis that poets were the first historians, Father Banier attempts to decipher the meaning of historical mythology and the true sources of fables. The book became a classic and was a great success. The whole is written in the form of interviews, fashionable shape then. Many footnotes pages.
