Quintus Curtius Rufus (dit) QUINTE-CURCE De rebus gestis Alexandri magni regis Macedonum, libri decem

Quintus Curtius Rufus (dit) QUINTE-CURCE

De rebus gestis Alexandri magni regis Macedonum, libri decem

Apud Ioanem Frellonium, Lugduni (Lyon) 1555, in-12 (8x12,5cm), (28) 325pp. (23) (33), relié.

Editions of Curtius on Alexander's life were numerous in the sixteenth century. We were unable to determine if it was a first for John Frellon, although not identified any've earliest edition in this editor (especially in the catalog of Lyon Aurelianensis sixteenth editions) present only in the catalog Edinburgh. Beautiful printing Italics Tiny. The last leaf bears the mark of the scorpion typographer Michael Sylvius typographus. Two sheets ancient manuscripts endnotes on Alphonse King of Naples, and Alexander Curtius. The last non-paged party bears the title in the header: Alexandri magni Epistle of India situ [...] ad Aristotelem praeceptorem suum, in latinitatem vesa has Cornelio Nepote. Full Calf chocolate nineteenth. Back tooled raised cold Renaissance friezes. Hot boards struck a Renaissance pattern (a flower in a square box with lilies) and cold multiple threads coaching (clovers hot in the spandrels). Traces of laces. Gilt edges. Mors rubbed with upper jaw split and partly fragile. Both caps were restored previously (a few accidents). 2 corners bumped. first white sheet keeps detached, ocher wetness in the middle on the first leaf and the last. The story of Alexander is the only book of Curtius (Roman writer of the first century) that has survived, yet we did it get incomplete since the first two books have been lost, and the last two are incomplete. It was always praised his qualities as a writer, geographic and military knowledge, even if they are full of errors. This biography of Alexander experience a huge success in the Renaissance. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
