First edition, richly illustrated compendium of the famous knight Folard comments prepared by the Count de Chabot. 113 intaglio plates - sometimes folding (Volume I: 51, Volume 2: 22 and Volume 3: 40) - representing technical, battle scenes and war machines of Antiquity; with 4 maps and a map of Cremona. Full speckled calf blond. Back with five nerves adorned parts of title and volume number of red morocco and gilded boxes and jewels; golden tail lace. All red edges. Two caps head threadbare, the third a little rubbed. Some worm holes on the back of the second volume. Two corners bumped. Many scuffs. Stress once again the importance of this work in the theory of military strategies. Must be the Count de Chabot this issue that does not retain the entire history of Polybius, in 6 Vol. in 4, but is mainly focused on the comments. And military strategist, eventually Folard commandant and Mestre camp, the draft Folard (we nicknamed the French Vegetius) was developing his ideas by commenting on the text of Polybius.
