Per Ioannem Oporinum., Basilae (Bâle) 1550, in Folio (21,5x33,5cm), (12) 438pp. (50). Signatures: A6 a-z6 2A-N6 O4 P-S6., relié.

First edition of the famous translation of Abraham Loesher, the best edition and the most faithful according Keyboard. The Princeps of this text dates from 1516 edition, printed by Aldus in Venice, but according to Brunet (Iv, 454), although rare, it was made on a bad script and was performed negligently, giving all its importance to the edition we present .. Published in Colophon. Thumbnail of the printer on the back of the last leaf, with the inscription Arion. Historiated initials. Full contemporary calf. Nerves back again at the end of the nineteenth century, with jewels and casters on the nerves, part of title in red morocco. Corners redone. On upper cover, gilt G. Harrosset. Many scratches on boards. To work on the lower flat. The bottom of the title page has been strengthened 1cm. Light traffic accidents: A pale wetness in low margin (another high margin on a few pages) ranging in fading to page 48, taking over the last 20 pages and index. Work worm between page 26 and 46 in the lower right corner. A second of 349-413 in right page margin at the very bottom. Pausanias was a geographer and writer of the second century AD. JC's description of Greece is a testimony of the first importance on Greece to Roman times, particularly in the second century of the Christian era, although Pausanias often delights to mix history and mythology. In the manner of a modern travel guide, it provides, as and when its route, a detailed list of sites they visit and legends related to it. Numerous archaeological excavations have repeatedly confirmed the truth of his information, especially with regard to the historical sites and works of art they contain. To describe the monuments and sites he visits, Pausanias (115-180) search libraries and travel extensively. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
