Edition published anonymously. Dialogue of Sylla was added for the first time in 1748. A signed frontispiece engraved by Eisen De La Fosse. Title page in red and black.
Bound in full sheepskin textured the time. Back with five nerves decorated with boxes and gilded florets, as well as a piece of red morocco. Hitch with the head missing the upper jaw; a second accident with missing tail. lack the nerve between the last cabinet. Good copy.
The book, whose first edition dates back to 1734, is a panorama of the history of Rome in which the author stresses the importance of the influence of the collective history of the past history of peoples and vice versa. In addition to these considerations, Montesquieu is to underline the specificity of the Roman people (love of country, work and freedom in particular) that allowed it to thrive and expand its influence throughout the Mediterranean, but also know a great era of decadence own to this.
