The war of the gods is a satirical poem in which the gods of the Christian religion and those of the Greco-Roman mythology clash; it gave rise upon its release to numerous complaints, and put him in the same time very high in this type of production, the quality of language and style. The first editions are sought for the following were all redacted. Following this famous poem Parny, an amateur brought together several texts from the same contemporary reflecting the situation of religion in France; texts illuminate them, and help to understand the circumstances that could give rise to the poem Parny.
