First edition of the translation and abstract conducted by the Marquis of Paulmy Contant and Orville.
Copy the arms of Rohan Chabot, certainly from the date of publishing, Louis-Antoine de Rohan-Chabot said the chevalier de Rohan. 2 twins and two sculpin crowned in the corners. We know that the Cardinal de Rohan library (infamous!) It was twins on the way back iron.
Binding full fair calf ice period. Back smooth decorated. Part of title and volume number in brown leather. 3 slashes on upper cover of Volume II without consequence. Nice copy.
The sun knight is a translation of the Spanish novel of chivalry Diego Orthunez of Calahorra, the first part was published in 1555, the suites appeared later, second and third parts are not of the author. Interesting preface to the Marquis de Paulmy, celèbre medievalist at the time, which asserts that the cycle of Amadis is a continuation of the knight of the sun. A table of contents allows to find the chronology of each character. The Marquis de Paulmy and his sidekick Contant d'Orville did not simply translate the knight of the sun, they compiled not only the result of the History of the knight soelil, but also the last 21 novels Amadis, and romance novels by Duverdier, allowing to follow the fate of all the characters of the Spanish romantic chivalry two books. Seems the strangest musical scores introduction and philidor songs and celebrating Grétry chivalry, testimony to the perception of the eighteenth of a romantic chivalry.
