First french edition, translated from the Italian by M. Jansen (the book appeared in effect for the first time in Italian in Bodoni). Binding slightly later in full sheepskin rooted, smooth back, part of title and volume number bronze. Beautiful copy. The book begins with the memories of the life and works of Mengs (1728-1779) by the chevalier Azara and instructions on tables Mengs, followed by treatises on painting the painter, as well as the beautiful, taste, the technical aspect of painting on various famous painters (Raphael, Correggio, Titian). There is a paragraph in the preface of Klopstock (German publisher) and Fuessli.
