First french edition, translated from the Italian by M. Jansen (the book appeared in effect for the first time in Italian in Bodoni). Binding slightly later in full sheepskin rooted, smooth back, part of title and volume number bronze. Beautiful copy. The book begins with the memories of the life and works of Mengs (1728-1779) by the chevalier Azara and instructions on tables Mengs, followed by treatises on painting the painter, as well as the beautiful, taste, the technical aspect of painting on various famous painters (Raphael, Correggio, Titian). There is a paragraph in the preface of Klopstock (German publisher) and Fuessli. Court painter to the King of Poland, he joined the Spanish court on requests from Charles III, King of Spain, paintings, early in the neoclassical style (see his Cleopatra) assured him fame and wealth, and the writings he left on the painting and the arts are full of research and subtleties. --- Please note that the translation in english is done automatically, we apologize if the formulas are inaccurate.
