First edition illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece and 22 large unsigned in-text figures, a title band and a drop cap.
Binding full Brown Basin contemporary. Back with ornate nerves. title label in red morocco. Headdresses torn off. Missing the bit. Primer of a narrow slit at the upper joint at the head and tail. 2 blunt corners. Epidermures on the boards. Miss the cover pages before the frontispiece and in fine.
This book of emblems was written to celebrate the Revocation of the edict of nantes (1685). (Landwehr, J. Romantic emblem books, 465.) It consists of Latin poems with French translation and allegorical mottos that illustrate the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes and the triumph of true religion, as well as foreign exchange on the rise of the sun. Each currency contains an emblematic figure.
