First edition, beautifully illustrated with a frontispiece of Cochin, engraved by Saint-Aubin, a thumbnail of the same title, 59 large tail-lamp and header (designed and engraved by Saint-Aubin) and explained decrypted beginning of the book, and 179 figures, each inset with an engraved stone (engraved by Saint-Aubin). Beautiful print on Grand Holland paper paper. shagreen full black morocco ca 1850. spine boards decorated with nets and casters on the nerves nerves. Frames to wrinkling on the flat with angular finials. Marbled edges. Lightweight rubbing on spine, corners. Lack of paper margins of a sheet of Volume I. Some leaves browned. Pale angular leaf wetness 3 of Volume I. A fine copy, with wide margins. The Duke of Orleans was a great collector, so many books, antique and engraved stones; the last provide useful information to archeology and even crucial for studies of antiquity. Gather stones engraved required long and patient research and a lot of money, and there is little that the sovereign who could assemble a collection. The Duke of Orleans, remarkable, was bequeathed to Louis XIV.
