The Gourville public activity extends over nearly half a century, the eve of the Fronde at the end of the seventeenth century. Of humble origins, he knew his qualities by becoming a servant of the Duc de la Rochefoucauld, and the Prince of Conde, and even Mazarin. The memoirs trace the world of finance and taxes; being close to the Superintendent Fouquet, it will become very rich, but it will follow in his disgrace; but far from sinking into exile, Gourville will use this contemporary to become a diplomat and be very close to Louis XIV of Ministers; he finally long gone from the house of Condé and attempt to restore his fortunes.
