First edition

Jacques-Bénigne BOSSUET Relation sur le quiétisme

Jacques-Bénigne BOSSUET

Relation sur le quiétisme

Chez Jean Anisson, à Paris 1698, In-12 (8x14,8cm), 213pp. (1), relié.

First edition.
Binding full brown sheepskin speckled contemporary. Back to nerves adorned. Title piece of brown morocco. A wormhole with the lower joint in the lead. Foxing. First leaves frightened on the external margin.
Quietism is a mystical doctrine which considers that the most perfect communion with God intervenes only when the soul is in a state of tranquility. The quarrel between the quietists and Bossuet takes shape in this work where Bossuet one by one rejects the arguments of the quietists at the head of which were Fenelon and Madame Guyon.
