New edition in four languages after the one cited on p. 59 mortar in 1659. This is the third edition, the original was published in Paris in 1694, in 8, in French only. The remarkable illustration includes an allegorical frontispiece by Jan van Vianen, a great plan brochure of the city and castle of Versailles, and 218 numbered boards, five folding, all engraved by P. Gros, Garnier, I. the Clérion N. Coustous Horned from the drawings of Thomassin. The book is divided into four parts with three title pages in red and black for all (one Dutch, one French, and the date 1695 in Pierre Mortier), and 4 pages of titles in red and black for volumes, which are as follows: t. 1. Statues Ancient & Modern Versailles, fig. 1-53 - t. 2. Groups Versailles, fig. 54-85 - t. 3 fountains and other ornaments of Versailles, fig 86-172 -. T. 4. Spas and vases Versailles, fig. 173-218. Velin full time. Back to nerves Jansenist. Part of title in red morocco. Marbled edges. Few pages browned at the end of the index. Nice copy in good condition. Considering that the book in question is the finest achievement of Simon Thomassin (1653-1732), writer of the king, who made many works.
