First Latin edition. Illustrated frontispiece of 1 and 9 large plates are not included in the pagination including 41 figures, depicting scenes of battles, ships, war machines ...
Bound in full brown sheepskin used contemporary. Back percaline brown grained completely rebuilt. boards decorated cold frames and several jewels in the spandrels. All very rubbed. Coins largely bare. Large traces of wetness from fading of the first leaf (very steep) to p. 150, on the sidelines right, the same wetness he rose to p. 191-214; the overall still fresh, apart from a few bites end of the book.
After publishing notes on Plutarch and Basil, Potter (1674-1747) published his graeca archeologia in 2 volumes in 8 in English in 1698. The book was a reference to Greek archeology until the mid-nineteenth century. This Hellenist later became Archbishop of Canterbury.
