Pierre LE TOURNEUR Histoire d'Angleterre représentée par figures

Pierre LE TOURNEUR

François-Anne DAVID

Histoire d'Angleterre représentée par figures

Chez l'auteur & François Anne David, à Paris 1784 - 1800, In-4 (19,5x26,5cm), (4) 194pp. et (4) 211pp. et (4) 116pp., 3 volumes reliés.

First edition, very rare, augmented by a third volume published 16 years later, in 1800, and dedicated to wars in the colonies, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Canada and the American war of independence. She is superbly illustrated with 111 hors-texte engraved figures engraved by François Anne DAVID after the drawings of Monet, Lejeune, Gois and Binet.
Publisher's binding in full blond calf jasped and glossy. Back with nerves beautifully adorned with 4 boxed florets. Title pieces in red morocco, and tomaison in morocco green. Triple framing net. Roulette on the cuts and inner. Golden slices with the use of a higher gold.
This luxury editorial company, entirely directed by François Anne David was made by subscription and was only drawn to 450 copies. This is the example of the art book, the illustration being in the same place as the text. David neglected nothing to achieve prefection, appealing to the best historians of his time and to the best draftsmen. The text of the first two volumes is due to the feathers of Guillaume Germain Guyot and Pierre Le Tourneur. The third volume was written by Jean-Baptiste Milcent.
